Fitness is a Family Affair
The work of a mother never ends. Even after the Mother’s Day flowers and breakfast in bed have become a fond, but distant memory, your daily routines will continue to make tremendous demands on your body. Unfortunately, mothers seem to be the most likely to let fitness and health concerns fall by the wayside, as they focus on their families and homes. That is a terrible mistake. In fact, the biggest gift you could give your family is to make the effort to stay healthy.
Fitness for Moms
The biggest reason that mothers, especially those with young children, have for neglecting exercise is lack of time. It’s hard to set time aside, especially if you have been conditioned to think of exercise as a chore that must be done with. Change the way you think about exercise. Choose a routine that you find fun. Take a daily walk, or sign up for an exercise class. Eat right, and eat healthy. Take time out for meditation. Chalk out some time every week just for yourself – to read a book, or simply do nothing and clear your head.
The best exercise program for mothers is one that is conducted in the privacy of their own home at a time that is most convenient for them. Many of the mothers that our in-home personal trainers work with report that they find it very convenient to not worry about gym equipment, or fret about looking “gym-ready” when they exercise at home.
Many mothers are also probably put off by experiences like the one reported by Krista Grubb of Florida. Grubb recently had a nasty experience at an LA Fitness gym which revoked her gym membership suddenly. Her crime? She had brought her 13-year-old son to the gym one day to spend some one-on-one time with him, and exercise with him, but for reasons unknown, LA Fitness thought it was a major violation of gym rules. Grubb was shocked to receive a letter from the gym, informing her that her membership had been revoked, because she had been training her son, and LA Fitness only allowed its own staff trainers to do any training on its premises!
A Fitter Family Is a Healthier Family
You don’t have to suffer being the unwanted customer at a gym that treats you like just another monthly billing code. There are plenty opportunities to exercise with your children that do not involve the gym at all. Plan bike rides and hikes with the entire family. Take time out to exercise as a family at home. Get involved in a sport that everybody loves. Look for ways to spend time with your family that involve physical activity, instead of the television.
Summer is almost here, and you’ll soon find yourself spending much more time with your children on their summer break. It’s the perfect opportunity to pick up your exercise program, and get your family started down the road to healthy living!
Here’s to a fitter, healthier and happier family!
